What are you going to support?

Sheet music purchase and song copyright costs

I used to work in the music industry, therefore I know how much effort goes into creating music. Usually the songwriter/lyricist/composer receives the least amount of money for their work, because the record label, the distributor, and the online or physical store where you buy the song or album takes most of the money. Therefore, I want to support the composers by buying sheet music from legitimate sources, and paying the copyright costs for the songs. If you publish cover songs on YouTube it means that the ad revenue that the video generates will be given to the owner of the song. Therefore I don’t make any money on my cover videos. If you become a Patron, you not only support the composers, but me as well, because I can raise money to create more videos for you.

My singing lessons

I started taking singing lessons when I came up with the idea of reviewing songs from a personal development point of view. Now I have a 60 minutes singing lesson every week, and I cannot tell you how much I enjoy them. Although my vocal coach, Bradley Smith is an operatic tenor, he has such an understanding not just of vocal technique but different musical genres and styles as well, that his contribution to my YouTube channels is priceless.

As you can see, rehearsal rooms are not as glamorous as big stages, but nevertheless, we have an amazing time doing music, and we also laugh so much. 🙂

Cover song audio & video recording costs

Since the Sapiego Motivation and the Borbala Music YouTube channel’s  main focus is music, in order to create videos for you with high-quality sound and visuals, I feel that it is very important to work with professionals. If I just do it at home with a lapel mike, you won’t enjoy the result at all…

Since I had very limited financial resources, for the first recording session I came up with a very ambitious plan: record 20 songs in a studio in 2 days, with no rehearsals at all. Just go to the studio, meet there in person with my collaborators for the first time, work on a song for 30 minutes, and then move on to the next one.

This was a crazy plan, therefore it was crucial to find the perfect collaborators, who are excellent professionals in their fields, hard-working, but also fun. It turned out that I was extremely lucky:

The team recording the songs for the Sapiego YouTube channel. From left to right: Oliver Coward DOP, me, Eri Yamamoto piano, Neil Goody sound engineer.

Eri Yamamoto, who is a classically trained pianist, could play even the trickiest songs, like the Frozen songs, with ease and artistry. Oliver Coward, the director of photography, surprised me with how many camera angles he could find, and how quickly he could move the gear around, so we would not waste a single second. Neil Goody, the sound engineer of The Premises Studios, professionally recorded the sound. We spent 2 intense and tiring, but fun and rewarding days together, and were able to record 19 songs.

So, your financial contribution means that I can assemble this great team together again, and we can record more songs for you.

Cover song audio mixing & video editing costs

Recording the video and audio is just one phase. After that we need to make sure, that the vocals and piano on the tracks are balanced and sound great, and the videos look stunning.

Therefore, a second phase is needed, where we mix the raw audio material to polish it, and also edit the videos in a way that it is engaging for you. You don’t want to look just to one camera angle, right, that would be so boring…

Song review & analysis video creation

Creating just one song analysis video often comes up to a full 40-hour workweek.

After doing research on a given personal development topic and which song would be the best to cover that topic, I write the script myself because I believe in authenticity, and personal experience over AI generated content. Script writing takes somewhere between 1-3 days, based on how much I have to say about the personal growth topic.

Shooting the analysis video footage for a 30 minutes video usually takes 2 hours. Editing all the video footage into the final review video that you can watch on YouTube requires another 2-3 days work approx.

Why support? Because just to launch the channel, and create 1 year worth of high quality content is totalling to more than £6000, if I add up all the studio & musician hire, video editing, singing lessons and sheet music purchase costs. I would love to keep the channels going for years to come, because I enjoy singing and creating content for you, and I also hope that I can motivate and help you to grow with the knowledge I provide on the channel.

But currently, I finance everything from my personal savings, and I have to tell you, this is a very costly hobby that I cannot sustain for long. 🙈 I have to give up other things, like the possibility to buy a home. And the reality is, that I cannot expect to earn too much ad revenue from the YouTube videos because most music publishers just take the ad revenue as payment for the song copyright costs.

Therefore, I would appreciate your support, no matter the amount that you can afford from the 3 tiers, which price points span from less than the price of a coffee to the price of a lunch or dinner. In return, I can offer various content access options, as you can see in the tier details at the top of the page.

Thank you for your generous contribution to the costs of the Sapiego Motivation and Borbala Music YouTube channels!
